Nebraska track and field senior Angela Mercurio was named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-America Second Team and junior Kevin Cahoy was named to the Third Team on Thursday, the College of Sports Information Directors of America announced. The awards move Nebraska’s nation-leading Academic All-America total to 338 all-time across all sports.

A native of Kitchener, Ontario, Mercurio graduated in May with a 3.99 GPA majoring in biochemistry and women’s and gender studies. She was a three-time second-team All-American in the triple jump and won the 2019 Big Ten indoor title in the event.

A 2018 CoSIDA Second-Team Academic All-American, Mercurio was also a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and four-time academic All-Big Ten selection. Mercurio also received a $10,000 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and a $7,500 Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship this year.

Mercurio becomes the sixth Husker female track and field student-athlete to earn multiple Academic All-America awards in a career and the first since Natalie Willer in 2010 and 2011.

Cahoy, a junior from Grand Island, Nebraska, has a 3.99 GPA majoring in biological sciences. He placed seventh in the pole vault at the 2019 Big Ten Indoor Championships, helping the team win the team title and also finished fourth at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships. He is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and academic All-Big Ten selection.
