In the coming days ahead of Wednesday’s early signing deadline, expect more twists and turns to Nebraska’s 2023 recruiting class.
Nebraska added two more players to its official visitor list this weekend, Pierre (S.D.) T.F. Riggs defensive lineman Jason Maciejczak and Roswell (Ga.) cornerback Ethan Nation.
Maciejczak is a North Dakota commit and potential defensive tackle prospect for Nebraska thanks to his 6-foot-4, 320-pound frame. Like many of Nebraska’s 2023 targets, Maciejczak has a track and field background that includes several years participating in the shot put and discus.
He would likely fit in as a nose tackle in a 3-3-5 defensive scheme that defensive coordinator Tony White will bring to Nebraska. The Nebraska coaching staff extended an offer to Maciejczak on Friday, hoping to flip him from North Dakota late in the process.
Nation is a 5-10, 165-pound cornerback who picked up a Nebraska offer from defensive backs coach Evan Cooper on Friday. The Georgia native has offers from just about every SEC school – including Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee but remains uncommitted at the moment. The two-way standout had 12 interceptions in his high school career along with 14 receiving touchdowns, and Nation’s athletic ability at cornerback is among his standout traits.
Nebraska’s recruiting efforts on the road continued with head coach Matt Rhule and offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield visiting wide receiver commit Jaidyn Doss on Thursday. Rhule then continued to make his way around Omaha’s high schools with stops at Omaha Westside and Gretna.
Elsewhere around the state on Thursday, running backs coach EJ Barthel stopped by Bishop Neumann and Ashland-Greenwood. Defensive line coach Terrance Knighton and recruiting staffer Omar Hales visited Lincoln Lutheran, and assistant director of player personnel Keith Williams visited Lincoln Northeast.
Other recruiting notes
* While in Philadelphia on Wednesday, Nebraska offered 2024 athlete Kahmir Prescott, a three-star recruit who would likely profile as a safety. The 6-0, 190-pound prospect has offers from several East Coast schools including Boston College, Maryland, Penn State and Pittsburgh. Nebraska’s recruiting efforts in the Philadelphia area are here to stay, and offers to 2024 prospects like Prescott are proof of that.
* Homestead (Fla.) wide receiver Cortez Mills, a 2025 recruiting target, picked up a Nebraska offer on Friday. While it’s still very far out for 2025 recruits, Mills is shaping up to be one of the nation’s best with a four-star ranking at the moment. The 6-1, 170-pound wideout has an offer from hometown school Miami, in addition to Florida State, Michigan and UCF.
