Trying to understand the importance of bowl eligibility and practice time

It should go without saying, but I want to preface this by saying I always want to win more games. Perhaps it is all the years of consecutive bowl appearances of seasons past that made me expect it and not consider other factors of importance with being bowl eligible.

One thing I see when reading discussion on the need of getting to six wins are the extra 15 practice sessions. This is what I am trying to wrap my head around.

—If they are so invaluable, why would only the “haves” (.500 or better) get this? What is the advantage for the team team that doesn’t make it? It never feels like getting a leg up on recruiting is one.

—if it is about the ability to install your system better, what happens when you have Coordinators you don’t want or might be on their way out (for good or bad)?

—If you don’t have “the guy” at a given position and are hoping you find him for your next signing class, how does it help?

If it’s all about just winning then I can understand that. I just see the extra reps argument and really wanted to understand it better.
