Thousands Turn Out to Watch Saturday Night Nebraska Football Practice

Freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola didn’t disappoint as Nebraska practiced in front of about 3,500 paying fans Saturday evening in Memorial Stadium.

Kevin Sjuts of TV station KOLN in Lincoln went so far as to tweet: “Open Practice, Closed Competition. This guy is too good not to play.”

The Omaha World-Herald’s Sam McKewon said of Raiola: “Perhaps not showing textbook mechanics on every throw, but he’s a natural. … And he protected the ball the best. He probably took the fewest risks of all the quarterbacks in terms of tossing the ball in traffic.”

The Athletic’s Mitch Sherman noted that Raiola made “several nice connections with Jahmal Banks and Isaiah Neyor.” (Banks and Neyor are the Huskers’ two new additions at wide receiver via the transfer portal.)

To some observers’ surprise, Turner Corcoran started out with the first unit at left offensive tackle. He is battling Teddy Prochazka for the starting spot.

Before the practice, head coach Matt Rhule said roughly 3,500 tickets had been sold. Rhule had injury updates and other observations as he spoke with reporters. Watch the press conference video below.
