Thoughts on this Big Ten alignment for football

The most probable case I see, based on current information.

Groups will be based on geographical proximity and ideal matchups.

Group | West | Midwest | Mideast | East |
:—–: | :—–: | :—–: | :—–: | :—–:
Team 1 | Nebraska | Wisconsin| Indiana | Ohio State
Team 2 | Kansas | Iowa | Purdue | Penn State
Team 3 | Iowa State | Northwestern | Michigan | Maryland
Team 4 | Minnesota | Illinois | Michigan State | Rutgers
Avg. win (2019) | 6.5 wins | 7.3 wins | 7 wins | 7.3 wins
FPI wins 2021 | 5.6 wins | 6.9 wins | 6.4 wins | 7.5 wins
Group Champion | Iowa State | Wisconsin | Indiana | Ohio State

Groups seem to be fairly balanced, especially considering the slump that Nebraska has been in. The pros of this format would be the introduction of 3 prior Big 8 teams into a group together, leading to more competitive and geographically sound matchups.

Each group would play everyone in their own group, plus a different group on rotation through three years. The final two conference games will be yearly matchups between rivals. Each team has at most 3 rivalry games (some more competitive than others), at least one of those rivalry games are within their own group. As usual, three non-conference games. Furthest drive in-group would be Minnesota to Kansas (just under 7hrs, all interstate) and OSU to Rutgers (just under 8hrs, all interstate). All other trips are 4hrs or less, which is much more ideal than current situations.
