This is the team we deserve

Bring on the downvotes but this place is an absolute toxic cesspool on the weekends during the season. I get that we’re passionate fans, but it’s honestly embarrassing to see some of the things that are getting posted in the game threads and post game threads. Any prospective recruit that sees this place on a game weekend after a loss or reads some of the garbage people post on Twitter/Insta is definitely going to second guess choosing to commit to Nebraska. This is a goofy season and it’s a freebie. There were no out of conference tune up games to start. Players are likely missing practice and games due to COVID protocol and many of you are acting like Nebraska is the only team in this conference that has any right to improve. Some are even trying to statistically justify why this absolute clown show of a year(not just football) should be used as a data point to fire Frost or other coaches. Just last week many were praising Chins for how the D stood tall in the red zone to give us a win and now after this week I see people demanding that he gets fired. Are we a storied program with a rich tradition that we want to get back to? Yes, but why would anyone want to subject themselves to this fan base when there are schools out there with more reasonable expectations, more patience, less stress, and similar pay? The only people who seem to have aged as quickly as Frost has in three years are US Presidents. Stress is hell on the body. It’s clear that he cares and knows that the team is coming up short of expectations.

Whoever said we need to remove the signs above the gates declaring ourselves to be the greatest fans in college football is right. When we don’t get our way we act like a group of petulant children that didn’t get what we wanted for Christmas. We blame Mom and Dad instead of blaming ourselves and find ourselves wishing for new parents as if that will magically make things better. Instead of allowing for stability we expect progress or firings which is just going to continue the death spiral. Recruits are aligned to position coaches so an uncertain future with the person who recruits them means a recruit will look for a coach that has stability instead of a hot seat. Life is about relationships. The institutions we are a part of are secondary. The only schools that have the benefit of brand identity in the present day are the ones that are consistently making the playoffs or are a part of the conversation. Every high performing athlete wants to win a natty so if those schools come calling the decision turns into a no brainer regardless of their position coach stability. We aren’t that good and if we continue along this path it’s possible that we will find ourselves beyond saving.

Seriously, this season doesn’t count for anything so just be thankful that we have football. Our guys are getting some game reps and it seems like Frost is letting the new guys get some time in since there are no redshirts to burn. Have some patience and spend some time thinking about what you post/tweet. We shouldn’t accept mediocrity or being a bottom dweller, but we shouldn’t create and maintain an atmosphere that lowers our ceiling. Emotionally deciding or supporting running off coaches, recruits, and players will never take us back to the promised land. As the Joker said, “You get what you fucking deserve.”
