Adrian Martinez is playing with a broken jaw and a high ankle sprain. Jojo Domann is also playing hurt. He could have chosen not to play today but said he wanted to be there for his guys.
This Scott Frost coached football team fought until the end against the fifth ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.
Unfortunately, the mistakes cost Nebraska again. This time it wasn’t something new to mark off on the bingo card. Again it was special teams mistakes made by the specialists.
If you want to upset a team that is eyeing the College Football Playoff then you cannot miss chip shot field goals. You cannot shank a punt for 13 yards.
Scott Frost’s mission, if he is willing to accept it (or if he even gets a chance), is to go get the best damn kicker and punter in the transfer portal during this offseason.
You can also chalk this loss up to an offense that struggled to move the ball and score points.
The defense played special yesterday but it wasn’t special enough to hold Ohio State to less than 17 points. It however, did hold them to 26 points which was 21 points below the Buckeye’s average.
Erik Chinander’s defense has played well enough to win 10 games this season. It is a shame that they didn’t have an offense or a special teams to go and fight with them.
Well maybe I wouldn’t blame special teams. As Frost said after the game, “it isn’t special teams, it’s the specialists.” So first thing is first during the off-season. Frost needs to fix the specialists position.
Then he needs to walk into the nearest bathroom and close the door behind him. Find the closest mirror and take a deep breath before staring into the void as he asks one question.
“Why can’t we pass block?”
