The Nebraska Football program has had a player selected on Draft Day every year since 1963.
That streak extended to 56 years on Saturday afternoon when quarterback Tanner Lee was selected 203rd overall in the NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Lee was the first Nebraska quarterback to be drafted at his position since Keithen McCant was taken in the 12th round back in 1992.
Lee was the tenth quarterback taken in the 2018 draft and the first one from the Big Ten Conference.
Lee completed 57.5 percent of his passes in 2017 for Nebraska, throwing for 3,143 yards, 23 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
He finished his three-year college career with a 55.2 completion percentage, 6,744 passing yards, 46 touchdowns and 37 interceptions.
Lee played in the Reese’s Senior Bowl back in January, completing 8-of-19 passes for 86 yards. He also had an interception and a fumble.
Lee tested well at the NFL Combine in late February with a 4.98-second 40-yard dash, 32-inch vertical jump, 9-foot, 7-inch broad jump, 7.0-second three-cone drill and 4.41-second 20-yard shuttle.
He also showed out well at Nebraska’s Pro Day on March 14. Lee scripted his own plays and completed 43-of-49 throws in front of scouts.
Lee has one connection in Jacksonville. Jaguars assistant coach Eric Price, who oversees offensive research, was the offensive coordinator at Tulane when Lee played there in the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
