Swansen’s Heroics Propel Huskers to Semifinals

Gabe Swansen showcased an outstanding performance, driving in a career-high six runs to lead Nebraska to a commanding 12-5 victory over Ohio State on Friday afternoon at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.

The Huskers (36-20) displayed their offensive prowess, scoring 12 runs on 13 hits, supported by Swansen’s remarkable performance at the plate. Ohio State (29-26) managed to tally five runs on seven hits, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Nebraska’s dominant display.

Swansen led the charge for the Huskers, going 4-for-5 with a three-run home run and a pair of extra-base hits, totaling six RBI for the game. His exceptional hitting, combined with Ben Columbus’s patient plate discipline and Rhett Stokes’s consistent hitting, powered Nebraska’s offensive onslaught.

Pitcher Mason McConnaughey delivered a stellar performance on the mound, pitching six strong innings and recording a career-high 11 strikeouts while allowing only three runs, two of which were earned. Jalen Worthley and Rans Sanders provided solid relief pitching to secure the victory for the Huskers.

The game saw Nebraska jump to an early lead with Swansen’s three-run homer in the opening frame, setting the tone for their offensive dominance throughout the game. Despite Ohio State’s attempts to narrow the gap, Nebraska’s resilient batting lineup, highlighted by Columbus’s home run and Swansen’s timely hits, ensured the Huskers maintained a comfortable lead.

With this impressive win, Nebraska advances to the semifinals, where they will face third-seeded Indiana on Saturday, May 25 at 9 a.m. at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. Husker fans can anticipate another exciting matchup as their team continues their quest for victory in the tournament.
