Nebraska wide receiver J.D. Spielman made history on Monday morning, becoming the first Husker receiver named to the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-America team.

Spielman is just the second wide receiver in Big Ten history and fifth Husker overall to make the FWAA Freshman All-America team.

Spielman was also named a freshman All-American last month by USA Today. He received third-team All-Big Ten honors as a receiver, and honorable mention accolades as a kick returner.

Spielman, a native of Eden Prairie, Minn., set new freshman records in 2017 with 55 catches and 830 receiving yards. He added 669 kick return yards to lead the Huskers with 1,572 all-purpose yards; the most by any Nebraska freshman.

Spielman led all freshmen nationally with 75.5 receiving yards per game last season. He also led the Big Ten with 88.1 receiving yards per conference game, including a school-record 200-yard receiving game in a 56-14 loss to Ohio State on Oct. 14, 2017.
