Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing In Cornfield North Of Highway 34; Pilot and Passengers Alive

A small plane experiencing engine trouble makes an emergency landing in a plowed out cornfield just north of Highway 34. Initial calls of engine failure from the plane came around noon. Executive Director for Lincoln Airport Dave Harring tells KLIN news there were four people aboard the plane and all made it out of the landing alive.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says that the pilot 46 year old Scott Lonergan with three family members on board had just taken off from the Lincoln Airport, when his 1964 Cessna 205 experienced engine problems and turned back toward the airport. But Lonergan says that with engine trouble and a strong headwind he knew he would not be able to make it back safely, so performed the emergency landing in the cornfield.
