Shawn Hammerbeck commits to Nebraska football’s 2025 class

The Nebraska football team’s recent recruiting surge has continued with another offensive line commitment.

Winner (South Dakota) offensive lineman Shawn Hammerbeck announced he will joining Nebraska’s 2025 recruiting class on Wednesday, marking the Huskers’ fourth commitment in a one-week span — three of whom are offensive linemen.

Nebraska’s latest addition, Hammerbeck, has been a key recruiting target since mid-April. The 6-foot-6, 245-pound lineman attended a spring practice where NU coaches extended a scholarship offer and invited Hammerbeck back to campus for a June official visit.

Primarily an offensive line prospect, Hammerbeck also received plenty of recruiting interest from programs who viewed him as a future defensive lineman instead. That helped Hammerbeck narrow his list to Minnesota, Nebraska and Texas Tech, the three programs he officially visited last month.

The top-ranked recruit in South Dakota this year, Hammerbeck’s commitment gives Nebraska a key offensive line pledge from within the program’s 500-mile radius. The Huskers’ other offensive line commits, Houston Kaahaaina-Torres and Brian Tapu, play on the West Coast in Hawaii and Utah.

Hammerbeck will now be joining a Nebraska program that has a proven track record of testing versatile young players at multiple positions to find their best spot on the field. NU’s most recent signee out of South Dakota, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Jason Maciejczak, went through that process last fall when he began the season as a defensive lineman before moving to the offensive side of the ball.

Nebraska now has 15 players in its 2025 recruiting class following Hammerbeck’s commitment.
