Scoggin Finalist for National Honor

Lincoln – Nebraska women’s basketball redshirt sophomore Ashley Scoggin has been named 1 of 10 finalists for the NCAA Division I Junior College Transfer of the Year Award, as selected by World Exposure Report News Services.

Scoggin, who is in her first season with the Huskers, has started all 24 games in 2020-21 and is averaging 8.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in more than 31 minutes per game. The 22-year-old who had the start of her Division I career sidetracked for four seasons by knee injuries, was an NJCAA All-Region 18 performer in her only season on the court at Salt Lake City Community College.

Scoggin has helped Nebraska to nine Big Ten wins as a starter, including five wins over Associated Press Top 25 teams. She scored a career-high 18 points in Nebraska’s win over Penn State on Feb. 21, and owns 12 double-figure scoring efforts on the season. She produced double digits in wins over AP Top 25 teams Northwestern (Dec. 31 and Feb. 7) and Rutgers (Jan. 3). Scoggin has hit 39.6 percent of her three-pointers and 81.5 percent of her free throws on the season.

Since Feb. 1, Scoggin is averaging 10.6 points points per game with seven double-figure scoring performances in the last 10 games. She averaged 11.5 points per contest in Nebraska’s two games at the Big Ten Tournament last week, including 14 points to help the Huskers take No. 7 Maryland down to the wire in the quarterfinals.

The 5-7 guard from Dallas, Ore., missed her senior season at Westview High School with a torn ACL in her left knee in 2015-16. She delayed her college enrollment by a year and became a freshman at Salt Lake City CC before tearing her right ACL in July of 2017. She underwent another ACL surgery on her right knee in November of 2018, missing the entire 2018-19 season. In her only season on the court in Salt Lake City, she averaged 10.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.3 steals while helping the Bruins to the NJCAA Region 18 title.

The winner of the NCAA Division I Junior College Transfer of the Year Award will be announced by World Exposure Report News on April 9.
