Saturday Night was a Glimpse at What the Nebraska Football Program Could Be in Win Against Deion Sanders and Colorado Buffaloes Huskers News Shedeur Sanders Travis Hunter

Last night after Nebraska went up 28-0 I got a text from a friend. He saw a sign made by a Nebraska fan that said the following, “So this is the Husker Football my dad has always talked about.”

I would say that we are not there yet. Not even close. However, I think we all saw a glimpse of what Nebraska football could become.

Last night we saw a loud imposing crowd atmosphere and the play on the field matched that energy from the crowd. It is obvious it affected Colorado and I would say that it looks like the officials couldn’t handle the atmosphere either.

But that is for another time.

Brett Ciancia of Pick Six Previews said, “The loudest college football environment I’ve ever been a part of (on the Tommi Hill pick six) and I’ve been all across the country.”

The defense was flying around and stunned a Colorado offense that apparently had the two best players in college football. As College Football Analyst and Radio Host (former player) Danny Kanell tweeted last week that “the best football player in the country is Travis Hunter. And there really isn’t a close second.”

So we need to give this Nebraska team a ton of credit for beating a team with Travis Hunter who apparently was going to win the Heisman and a quarterback who is going to be a top five NFL pick in Shedeur Sanders.

Joel Klatt, a national college football commentator and somebody whose opinion I actually respect even though he is a former Colorado player, picked Colorado to beat Nebraska last night based off the fact that Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter could beat Nebraska by themselves. Here is part of the quote.

“Should Nebraska beat Colorado based off of the film? Yes. They are better at the line of scrimmage. Their team is better overall. Here’s the pause. The best two players on the field will be Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. And if those players if they just played on offense I would feel very differently about this. But Travis Hunter can impact the game on both sides of the ball. He’s probably not only the best player on the field but he’s probably the best non-quarterback player in the sport. Nebraska might be at home and might be favored by 7.5 but what happens if #12 (Travis Hunter) puts a cape on and has two picks and has five catches for 150. Because that can happen. Nebraska can play a great game everywhere else. What happens if #12 puts a cape on and intercepts the true freshman (Raiola) in his real first game…he’s about to look over there and see the best corner in college football…the best non-quarterback in the sport? What happens if Travis Hunter goes off?”

The television numbers for the game have not been released yet but that is another part of last night. Under the bright lights, and I promise you that number is going to be huge, Nebraska finally didn’t crap the bed. In fact, they did the opposite and took out a rival when the spotlight was on them and it wasn’t even close.

That part is the Nebraska football our dad’s talked about.

So we got a little glimpse of it on Saturday night.

Love Schick but still have to post it.

10 Takeaways from Week 2: College Football Upsets and Lessons Learned – NBC Sports
College football is unpredictable and delightful, which is why we live for what happens on Saturdays. And the second Saturday of the 2024 season did not disappoint, from an emotional Thomas Hammock and his Northern Illinois Huskies upsetting No. 5 Notre Dame to Nebraska’s emphatic return to national relevance and so much more.

Each Sunday, I’ll publish my biggest takeaways from the college football weekend. I’ll highlight the most interesting storylines, track College Football Playoff contenders and specifically shout out individual and team performances that deserve the spotlight.

Here are my top takeaways from Week 2:

Final take: Nebraska delivers a night to remember
It was fitting that world champion boxer Bud Crawford led Nebraska out of the tunnel on Saturday night against Colorado.

The Huskers appeared to be on the verge of delivering an early-round Crawford-style knockout to the Buffalos. The Big Red jumped out to a 28-0 lead at halftime. Instead, the fight went 12 rounds, with NU walking away on Saturday night with a 28-10 unanimous decision.

Sipple: Tip your cap to the defense, Nebraska fans, and enjoy win
If you’re a Nebraska football fan, your team’s win Saturday night provided you with a lot of thinking to do this week.

Here’s some unsolicited advice: Enjoy the “W.” Nebraska is 2-0 for the first time since the 2016 season, which was Mike Riley’s second season in charge. Yes, that’s two head coaches ago.

What Deion Sanders, Colorado players said about Nebraska
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig spoke to the media after a demoralizing 28-10 loss to Nebraska.

Here are four things they said about the Huskers:
