Sarah Weber’s hat tricks boosts Nebraska soccer to win

Sunday afternoon may have been cool and rainy for an August afternoon, but No. 6 Nebraska’s scoring offense caught fire at points against Colorado State — boosting the Huskers to their first win of the season, 3-2.

Senior forward Sarah Weber led the way for the Huskers, recording her first-ever Husker hat trick. Her goals in the 14th minute and the 21st minute gave Nebraska an early lead and her goal in the 71st minute was the go-ahead goal.

Both of Weber’s first-half goals were assisted by midfielder Florence Belzile. The first was also assisted by senior defender Jordan Zade. Weber’s third goal was assisted by Zade and Gracie English.

Weber finished the match with 10 shots, five on goal. Both of those marks were career highs for the Gretna native.

But Colorado State didn’t go down quietly.

Villa, in her first action of the season, made a career-high eight saves and allowed the two goals. Colorado State’s goalkeeper Shayna Ross made two saves and allowed Weber’s trio of goals.
