Rudy Sautron wins Gopher Invitational in historic Nebraska golf debut

Rudy Sautron won medalist honors at the Gopher Invitational on Monday in the best debut by a Nebraska men’s golfer in program history.

Sautron shot a 5-under-par 208 over three rounds in Independence, Minn. The sophomore from France joined Nebraska in the offseason, transferring from Division II Cameron University (Okla.).

As a team, Nebraska finished third with 865 strokes, five off of event winner Iowa State.

Sautron’s three-round score is tied for the best 54 holes by a Nebraska sophomore in program history. He held off Rutgers’ Noah Kumar (4-under) and Elkhorn native Luke Gutschewski of Iowa State (2-under).

“I’m extremely happy for Rudy,” Nebraska coach Judd Cornell said. “To win in a field this strong in his first Division I tournament shows the type of player he is.”
