Rhule Talks Coaches Clinic, Solich Returning

Nebraska Head Football Coach Matt Rhule met with members of the media following Saturday’s spring practice.
 
Rhule spoke on the coaches clinic that started yesterday and went through practice today.
 
“Coach Osborne speaking last night was humbling. How detailed and meticulous he is at 86 years old, I mean it was gold. It was absolute gold,” Rhule said. “I took notes and wrote it down. There was really a lot that challenged me. I think most of the coaches probably felt that way. Coach (Osborne) was bragging that was the first time he ever made a powerpoint and he got up there and crushed it. I am really grateful for him and really grateful for the coaches.
 
“We want to be a place that people come to. We want to be a destination that people come to and come talk about football. We are 100 percent open. I tell every high school coach, ‘You want to come to practice? You can come any time you want.’ We also wanted to have a really good clinic, and I think it is really important. I hired some people that maybe the coaches are not familiar with and so to sit there and listen to Terrance Knighton and Garret McGuire and the level of detail and knowledge that helps our program. We had coaches from Texas, we had coaches from Albany, New York, we had coaches from Nebraska, from the Dakotas so people came a long way. To get close to 400 people here for our first clinic is great and it will just continue to grow.”
 
Rhule explained that the quarterbacks were live during today’s practice and assessed their performance.
 
“I thought they played really well,” he said. “They all bring something different to the table. I think we probably turned the ball over twice so there are some things we have to correct, but we got a lot of good situations in. We have third down, we have two-minute, we got red zone, and I thought for the most part they played really well. I was really pleased with the quarterbacks today.”
 
Rhule expressed his appreciation for former Nebraska Head Coach Frank Solich returning for the Spring Game.
 
“I think it is awesome that he is coming back,” Rhule said. “That is what this time is all about for Nebraska. It is not about the eras that we played in. It is just about Nebraska. For the former players my message has been, and I humbly say this, that whether you played for Coach Devaney or Coach Osborne, whether you played for Coach Callahan or Coach Pelini or Coach Riley or Coach Frost or now Coach Matt Rhule, you played for Nebraska too. I think the power of this job is that the state unites and everyone is for Nebraska. Coach (Solich) coming back is a pivotal moment in that. Coach (Osborne) speaking last night is a pivotal moment in that. I am unbelievably grateful to him for doing that.”
