Reserve OLB David Alston entering NCAA transfer portal after three years at NU | Football

Nebraska reserve outside linebacker David Alston is entering his name into the NCAA’s transfer portal on Friday, the Journal Star confirmed.

Alston, a St. Paul, Minnesota, native, did not appear in a game in his three years at Nebraska.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder was part of NU’s transition class in 2018, a holdover player that was originally recruited by former coach Mike Riley’s class and then re-recruited by Scott Frost and company in the mad dash to put together (and keep together) a class when Frost first arrived on campus.

Alston was the top-ranked player in Minnesota for the 2018 class.

At NU, he made one travel roster last year for the final game of the season, but never appeared to come close to cracking the Huskers’ rotation at outside linebacker.

Alston did impressive work in the classroom as a two-time Academic All-Big Ten pick, and he graduated in May with a degree in advertising and public relations. He’ll be immediately eligible and has up to three years of eligibility remaining.
