Rapid Reaction: Huskers hungry for a game; trying for a replacement game; fragmented schedule | Football

Scott Frost Monday sounded like a coach who was more than ready to play a game.

Scott Frost on Monday sounded like a football coach who was beyond ready to play a game.

With nearly every answer during his 16-plus minutes with the media, the Nebraska coach repeated some iteration of Nebraska having the desire to get back on the field after having last week’s game against Wisconsin canceled and an attempt to schedule a nonconference game thwarted by the Big Ten.

“I’m pretty sure we’ve set a record for most practice for a team with one game under your belt,” Frost said. “I think guys are learning to roll with the punches.”

Frost declined to share his thoughts on Wisconsin making the decision to cancel last week’s game, and the Big Ten allowing teams some wiggle room to make such a call if they deem it appropriate.

“I’ve shared my thoughts on that before and it hasn’t done any good, so I don’t think I’ll share my thoughts now,” Frost said.

Frost described the process of trying to line up Tennessee-Chattanooga for a replacement game, saying the coaching staff told the players they were trying to get a replacement game on the schedule.

“We told them it would go to a vote by the Big Ten; that we were trying to do it the right way,” Frost said. “I don’t think they were very confident when they heard that, and they were right.”
