Rapid Reaction: Frost says ‘fingers crossed’ for RB Dedrick Mills to play vs. Purdue | Football

Nebraska head coach Scott Frost leads the Huskers onto the field to take on Iowa on Friday at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa.

Nebraska head coach Scott Frost spoke with reporters Thursday as the Cornhuskers (1-4) make their final preparations for a road trip to face Purdue at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Here are the highlights:

* Frost said Nebraska has its “fingers crossed” that senior running back Dedrick Mills will be available to play this weekend against Purdue.

Mills has been out since the first drive against Penn State on Nov. 14.

* There’s been rumblings of all kinds of potential moving and shaking with the Big Ten schedule over the final two weeks of the season — Dec. 12 and 19 — and Frost said most of those conversations at this point are happening at the athletic director level.

The NU head coach essentially said his team just wants to play somebody, somewhere. The Huskers, of course, are slated to host Minnesota on Dec. 12 and then take on a cross-divisional opponent on Dec. 19.

The Big Ten has yet to reveal plans on what that final weekend might look like aside from the league title game being moved to 11 a.m. on Fox in Indianapolis.

“Our guys want to play more games and they’re excited to do that,” Frost said.
