Question about VB match rules / mechanics

Those first 2 sets were some of the most dominating I’ve ever seen out of Nebraska, but in the 3rd (I think) we got hit with a penalty that was new to me. Had to do with player position I believe.

Can someone explain what that was? Is that why, before a team serves, the players line up stacked in a single file line at the net until after the ball goes over? I always thought that had to do with getting out of the line of site for the server.
