I’ve read a lot of these comments. I for one live for Saturdays in the fall. I’ll miss not seeing it. I personally don’t care for the likes of the SEC or Big12. Even if they both play I’ll probably only watch when absolutely needed.
There’s something about football in the Midwest that’s just different.
Nebraska of old may have fit better in the Big12 but the Nebraska today does not. It’s honestly not even a contest.
There’s been a lot of comments on here that in my opinion have to be from younger guys. Again this is reddit so I’m sure the audience is younger by default.
1. Academically Nebraska falls in line with the Big10
(it’s night and day contrast compared to Big12)
2. For those appealing for us to bail on the Big10….what specifically (outside of a Texas/OU matchup) is appealing to the Big12. We have non conference schedules we can use (and have) to get them on. I don’t miss playing Kansas, Ok St, TT and the like. I wouldn’t mind bringing KState around again (which again we have a non conference schedule). Playing Iowa State and WVU don’t really appeal to me.
3. Uhhh $60mil?!?! Last time I checked Nebraska isnt the largest state or Lincoln/Omaha the largest cities in the country let alone the Midwest. You want to put a damper on the program? Taking this money away would be a good start.
4. I’m very positive on the future and like what Frost is doing (maybe the new OC will get me a little more positive on Frost lol), but this isn’t the 80s/90s. Outside of our own fan base theres not much respect here. So we jump ship and go to the Big12 to be (if we’re lucky) respected as much as TCU?
5. Looking at the whole Athletic Department and each program it runs…..the B1G supports from top to bottom much better than the Big 12. I understand football is the revenue driver and everything but an AD has more to look out for as well.
6. If you want to talk conference loyalties the B1G (talking fan bases here) is more loyal than Big 12. Ive always considered the B1G to being one of the 2 (with SEC being the other) conferences that support their conference overall just as much as their team.
7. Lets not forget that PennState was not respected or very successful it’s first decade in the Big Ten. I don’t think they’ve had the struggles Nebraska has had but they didn’t just continue business as normal either.
8. Exposure. Nebraska isn’t a destination spot. B1G has the media power to get Nebraska out there to kids. Big12 does not and as long as Texas is around will never.
Lastly. Whose to say anyone plays football this year. As of now it reads like this.
The P5 will be the P3 for fall (ACC, B12, and SEC). Playing for what i don’t know.
The P2 (B1G and P12) along with nonP5s plan to play in the spring.
So either
A. There will be a pseudo season for both fall/spring. With the season being what exactly idk (for either fall or spring)
B. The P3 plays this fall and turns around to join the P2 yet again in the spring? What does the NCAA say about eligibility in this. What if the P3 gets till November and we have a second shutdown? Do those players lose eligibility for spring. Or should the P2 players get additional eligibility?
None of it makes sense. It’s all smoke and mirrors. The real organization that should be taking heat here is the NCAA. 6 months ago a task force with representation from each conference should have been formed with 1 unifying vote.
Yet again the NCAA drops the ball but the schools and conferences are made to look like the bad guys.
