Nebrasketball: 2022 shooting guard Jamarques Lawrence commits to Huskers

The Nebraska Cornhuskers men’s basketball team picked up the fourth commitment for the 2022 recruiting class today as three-star shooting guard Jamarques Lawrence announced his verbal this afternoon.

Lawrence is a three star shooting guard per the 247Sports composite. The 6-foot-6 and 175 pound prospect hails from Roselle, New Jersey. He rates as the No. 8 player in New Jersey and No. 33 shooting guard prospect in the 2022 class.

Lawrence joins JuCo commit Blaise Keita, Ramel Lloyd Jr., and Denim Dawson in the 2022 class. Prior to Lawrence’s commitment, the class ranked No. 8 in the Big Ten and No. 38 nationally per 247Sports. Keita is the highest rated prospect of the group as he ranks as the No. 1 JuCo recruit nationally in the 2022 class.

Lawrence was quick to pick the Huskers after his official visit to Lincoln on Oct. 1, a weekend visit that included a 56-7 win in football over the Northwestern Wildcats. Lawrence quickly announced after the visit his final two schools he was considering were Wake Forest and Nebraska.

Lawrence had a title of 19 offers overall. Though no other Big Ten programs offered him, he did feature offers from other power-six programs including the aforementioned Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Cal-Berkley, and DePaul. Other notable programs included St. Bonaventure, University of Maryland-Baltimore College, and Wichita State. Lawrence also passed on an offer from Fordham.

Jerry Meyer of 247Sports describes him as:

A decent athlete. Not explosive but has body control and good feet. A top notch shooter. Has a compact, smooth and quick shooting release. Shoots well cutting off screens. Off the dribble is more of a pull up guy than get to the rim guy. Doesn’t yet have the strength and quickness with the ball to be a rim attacker but does a great job of creating space for his jumper. Is a solid secondary ball handler and distributor. Has a feel for scoring and for defending. A good off the ball defender. Still needs to build up strength to improve as an on the ball defender and a rebounder.
