Nebraska’s Isaiah Roby will Forgo Senior Season, Stay in NBA Draft

Nebraska’s Isaiah Roby announced on Twitter that he has decided to forgo his senior year at NU and stay in the NBA draft. In a statement, Roby said “playing in the NBA has always been my dream and I feel that now is the time to pursue that. I want to thank all my coaches and teammates I had at Nebraska as well as Husker nation. I will always be a Husker!”

Roby has mostly been projected as a second round draft pick in several media outlet’s mock drafts, however he told reporters earlier this month at the NBA Combine that he expects he’ll go early.

“I’ve seen myself as high as 25,” Roby said. “I think I’m a first round talent. I think wherever I land, I think I’m going to be able to help that team out and help that team win games.”

The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 11.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game last year in 35 games. He also averaged 1.9 blocks, 1.3 steals and 31.3 minutes per game.

Roby’s departure is the latest roster shakeup for the program that has seen its fair share of attrition since the Husker’s new head coach, Fred Hoiberg, was officially hired in late March. Now, only two players remain from last year’s squad; Dachon Burke and Thorir Thorbjarnarson. Only one of those two, Thorbjarnarson, actually saw the floor this past season as Burke had to sit out due to NCAA transfer rules.

The majority of last year’s squad either graduated or was asked to enter the transfer portal, as they did not fit Hoiberg’s system, meaning that the 2019-20 edition of the Nebraska basketball team will be almost entirely new.

Hoiberg and his staff have added seven transfers, five brand new commitments (three scholarship players and two walk-ons) and secured the signatures of two recruits who had committed to play basketball at NU for former head coach, Tim Miles.
