Nebraska Vs. Akron Cancelled Due To Lightning

A lack of communication, and one team bolting for their plane results in a cancelled game

Nebraska and Akron were scheduled to open the season under the lights of Memorial Stadium, but the weather had different plans. After almost three hours of weather delays, Nebraska postponed the game, and at 10:30 decided to cancel the season opener. This marks the first time since 1943 that a Husker football game has been cancelled.

The Huskers knew the weather could be a factor, and right after the opening kickoff, a bolt of lightning struck within an eight mile radius of the stadium. As the time continued to pass by, the storms continued in intensity and heavy rain picked up at the stadium.
