Nebraska Sophomore Running Back Maurice Washington Has Hearing Set for September 3rd, Three Days Following NU’s Season Opener

According to the Omaha World-Herald, sophomore running back Maurice Washington will have another hearing at a Santa Clara County Court on September 3rd, a few days after Nebraska’s season opener against South Alabama. The date was determined during a hearing Thursday morning.

Washington is facing two charges – one misdemeanor and one felony – for allegedly texting a 10 second video to his ex-girlfriend back in March of 2018 of her performing a sex act. At the time of the video was taken, she was still a minor. Washington did not take the video nor was he present when it was taken.

At Big 10 media days last week, NU head coach Scott Frost said that he would “wait and see how it all turns out” before making a determination on Washington’s status with the team. According to Frost, Washington will still be present for fall camp, which begins next week.

“I don’t think camp is going to be an issue,” Frost said. “He’s already been doing some with spring ball and working out with our team. I don’t think any decision would have to be made because of his legal situation being unresolved until the first game.”

Last season, the California native appeared in 11 games, rushing for 445 yards while adding 221 receiving yards. Besides Washington, there are six Husker running backs currently on scholarship.
