Nebraska Roughed Up in Game Two at No. 12 Arizona State

Nebraska had played three games on Leap Day since George H.W. Bush was President of the United States, winning all three. A fourth would not be close in 2020.

The Huskers (1-7, 0-0 Big Ten) got on the board first in the second inning when Aaron Palensky hit a leadoff home run. The dinger is Palensky’s third of the season and second of the weekend. Nebraska would hold a 1-0 lead through the top of the fourth.

In the bottom half of the fourth inning, No. 12 Arizona State (8-3, 0-0 Pac-12) also used a leadoff home run to begin their scoring. A double and a single put runners on second and third when a sacrifice fly put the Sun Devils up 2-1.

The top of the fifth inning saw Nebraska manage one hit but not get anything rolling. Arizona State used the bottom of the inning to extend their lead. The Sun Devils had four hits, three of which were doubles, as part of a five run inning.

Arizona State padded the lead in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings as well while Nebraska managed just a hit in the sixth inning and nothing in the final third of the game.

The Sun Devils guaranteed a series win with a game two victory over Nebraska, scoring 14 runs on 14 hits.

Nebraska had six hits on the game.

The Huskers and Sun Devils conclude their series at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
