The Nebraska Cornhuskers return to action this weekend against the Indiana Hoosiers in Bloomington and are just one win away from reaching bowl eligibility for the first time since 2016.
The latest bowl projections from USA TODAY are mostly the same as last week, with a few exceptions. As the season continues to progress, the bowl projections are likely to stabilize in the coming weeks.
The Cornhuskers are still projected to face the ACC’s Syracuse Orange in the Pinstripe Bowl. This matchup would pit Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule against his former longtime assistant Fran Brown, who is in his first year with the Orange.
The Huskers and Orange have met 12 times, dating back to the first matchup in 1917. Syracuse holds a 7-5 advantage in the series. The two teams have not met on the gridiron since the 1984 season.
In Brown’s first year, the Orange are currently 5-1 after defeating North Carolina State 24-17 this past weekend. Syracuse will be off this weekend and return to action in week nine against the Pittsburgh Panthers.
In this week’s projections, the Big Ten has three representatives in the 12-team playoff: the Ohio StateBuckeyes, the Oregon Ducks, and the Penn State Nittany Lion.
Oregon would host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the first round, while Penn State would host the Kansas State Wildcats. After receiving a first-round bye, Ohio State is projected to face Penn State in the Rose Bowl in the quarterfinals. Oregon would play Clemson in the Peach Bowl.
The projections then have an Ohio State vs. Oregon rematch in the CFP Semifinals at the Cotton Bowl before Ohio State and Texas are projected to play in the College Football Playoff title game.
