Nebraska projected for potential 1998 Orange Bowl rematch

2 Jan 1998: Head coach Tom Osbourne of the Nebraska Cornhuskers holds a trophy after the Orange Bowl against the Tennessee Volunteers at Pro Player Stadium in Miami, Florida. Nebraska won the game, 42-17.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers earned their second victory of the 2024 season on Saturday evening when they defeated the Colorado Buffaloes 28-10 and are now just four wins away from bowl eligibility this season.

The latest bowl projections from USA TODAY now have the Huskers potentially set for a 1998 Orange Bowl rematch against the Tennessee Volunteers in the Citrus Bowl on December 31. Notably, the Volunteers were also the Huskers’ last bowl opponent in the 2016 Music City Bowl.

Notably, a few Big Ten programs are projected to be in the College Football Playoffs this fall. According to the projections, Penn StateOregon, and Ohio State are all projected to be in the playoffs come December.
