Nebraska plays Wisconsin in Madison this week. The last time Nebraska won a football game in Madison was October 8, 1966.

Game Highlight:

– Nebraska LB Barry Alverez seals the win with a Q4 interception

Here are some highlights from the 1966 football season:

– The first NFL/AFL Championship Game would take place

– Steve Spurrier would win the Heisman trophy

– The National Championship was split between Notre Dame and Michigan State, ending the year with a 10-10 tie between the two. Neither team played in a bowl because Notre Dame choose not to participate in bowls, and Michigan State could not repeat as the Big Ten representative to the Rose Bowl – so a Bob Griese led Purdue went instead.

– The Big Ten had 10 teams

– Bo Schembechler was head coach at the University of Miami (OH)

In other news:

– A man had not walked on the moon. In fact, no Apollo mission had launched.

– Lyndon Johnson was President

– Baby Boomers (1946-1964) were not able to vote yet. (The voting age was 21. The 26th Admendment wasn’t passed until 1971)

– Joe Biden was a second year Law Student at Syracuse
