Success on offense starts at the offensive line.
Huskers offensive lineman Ben Scott is ready to let other teams know how physical they are with the first game of the season against UTEP this Saturday.
“We’re going to attack,” Scott said. “They’re going to see what we’re made of.”
Scott said the Miners will see how aggressive they are and how well they finish their blocks.
After transferring to Nebraska from Arizona State, he played in all 12 games last season, starting 11 at center. He helped the Huskers rank second in the conference in rushing, and he’s excited about how the team will be able to run the ball again this season.
“The run game is always growing,” Scott said. “We got to see the tips and tells and make sure we’re all blocking the right people, and that starts with me making the right calls.”

He pointed to the growth he’s made this offseason going against the Huskers’ defensive line in practices. Now that he can finally go up against a different team’s defensive line, he’s ready to show them what they’re made of.
“Going against our D-line is something else,” Scott said. “Iron sharpens iron.”
Scott said he loves starting at home for week one. There’s more time to focus on preparation for the game, and there’s no usual hassle involved in traveling to another campus.
The team has also been able to focus on studying game tape for UTEP. The film review poses a different challenge with the school’s coaching staff coming in from Austin Peay, but the personnel from last season’s Miners squad still need to be studied.
Scott said the Huskers coaching staff helped a lot, making cut-ups of both film sets and making them much more accessible for the players.
A player Scott said has been vocal during the offseason is Florida transfer Micah Mazzccua.
“He’ll tell you what he wants and what he can do better every play,” Scott said. “We’re always trying to help him out, too, so it goes both ways. It’s been great.”
With freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola set to make his first start for the Huskers, Scott said he’s taken walkthroughs seriously and been one of the leading players grinding film in preparation for Saturday’s season opener.
Scott said he works like a pro, and the offensive lineman said it’s good to have him take snaps to open the season.
“He’s comfortable in there,” Scott said. “I think he’s going to trust us to do what we got to do, and we’re going to protect him.”
