Nebraska-Illinois Friday night game draws big TV ratings

Playing on Friday night has its exposure perks.

Nebraska football’s 31-24 loss to Illinois last week on Fox received 4.21 million viewers, according to Fox Sports and Sports Media Watch.

That total represented a 63% increase from the first week of Fox’s Friday Night football package — a Kansas State win over Arizona — and is the second most-watched Husker game this season.

NU’s 28-10 win over Colorado garnered 5.67 million viewers on NBC, according to SMW. That’s the second-highest rating of the Matt Rhule era, trailing only NU’s 36-14 loss at CU last year, which attracted 8.73 million viewers.

The Huskers-Illini game had similar ratings to Nebraska’s 2022 Week Zero game in Ireland — 4.42 million viewers — and NU’s 13-10 loss to Iowa last year on CBS, which had 4.38 million viewers.
