Nebraska Huskers basketball completes non-con slate with extended MTE

Nebraska has added the final pieces to 2021-22 its non-conference schedule, sources confirmed to HuskerOnline.com on Friday.

After announcing three high-major matchups this week against Colorado (exhibition), North Carolina State, and Auburn, the Huskers are expected to officially add three more games to its non-con slate by early next week.

Nebraska will host a multi-team event (MTE) at Pinnacle Bank Arena for the second year in a row.

However, unlike last season’s “Golden Window” event, NU will play home games against three opponents over seven days in late November.

The Huskers will host Southern on Nov. 21, Tennessee State on Nov. 23, and South Dakota on Nov. 27.

The other three schools will all play each other on various days that week as part of the event.

Southern finished 8-11 overall ad 8-6 in the SWAC last season, ranking 308th nationally in the 2020-21 KenPom ratings. The Huskers are 3-0 all-time vs. the Jaguars, all of which coming since 2012.

The last meeting was a 93-86 NU victory in Fred Hoiberg’s first season in 2019.

Nebraska is also 4-0 all-time against South Dakota, most recently topping the Coyotes 76-69 last season on Dec. 1, 2020. USD went 14-11 overall and finished second in the Summit League at 11-4.

South Dakota returns former Husker and Springfield, Neb., native Brady Heiman, who averaged 1.2 points and 1.6 rebounds in 14 games (five starts) last season.

This will mark the Huskers’ first-ever meeting with Tennessee State, which finished last in the Ohio Valley Conference last year at 4-19 (3-17).

With these latest additions, here is a look at Nebraska’s unofficial 2021-22 non-conference schedule…

*NOTE: The Big Ten will also once again play two conference games in early December – one home, one away — played around the Big Ten football championship weekend of Dec. 3-5.
