Nebraska hires director to guide its name, image, likeness strategy

The Nebraska athletic department took another step in its commitment to name, image, likeness by naming an NIL director on Tuesday.

Jonathan Bateman will manage day-to-day NIL operations for Nebraska and “serve as the primary liaison for all NIL and governance operations,” according to a news release.

Bateman most recently served as Nebraska’s associate director of compliance and first joined the department as an intern in 2011.

Nebraska has been a key player in NIL since its conception, and was the first school to invest in NIL preparation programming when it partnered with Opendorse in March 2020.

Now, it has its leader in Bateman, who noted in a statement his interest in keeping Nebraska at the forefront of NIL.

“As college athletics continues to undergo substantial change, it’s important that we have the pulse on all aspects of the landscape,” Bateman said. “It’s our goal that the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will continue to play a leading role in the next iteration of college athletics.”
