Panini America, a company that manufactures collegiate and professional sports cards, announced on Wednesday that Nebraska will be one of three colleges to trial a new platform for trading cards of college athletes.

Under the new program, titled “Panini College,” athletes from the participating schools’ athletic programs can decide to have their own Panini trading card available for purchase online.
Football and volleyball athletes from Nebraska, Ohio State and Texas are the first to participate in the program with options to add more sports in the future. According to Panini, players who elect to have a trading card made will be compensated based on the sales of their individual card.

Soon, the rest of the Nebraska football and volleyball teams will be able to join two players who already have their own trading cards: Lexi Rodriguez and Dylan Raiola.
An All-American libero, Rodriguez was selected by Panini to feature on the company’s first college volleyball card, which launched last October.
As for Raiola, the Husker quarterback signed a multi-year partnership with Panini prior to arriving on campus last December. The company has already manufactured a limited number of Raiola cards, including autographed versions, which appeared in the 2024 Panini National Convention set this summer.
