Nebraska football to host top in-state recruits in June

The state’s top uncommitted 2025 recruits will take official visits to see Nebraska football in June.

Omaha Westside linebacker Christian Jones and Millard South tight end Chase Loftin confirmed to multiple recruiting services that they have scheduled official visits to Nebraska in the upcoming month.

A four-star recruit and the No. 22 linebacker prospect nationally according to 247Sports, Jones will be taking his first official visits of the recruiting cycle. Jones will visit Nebraska on the weekend of June 14, sandwiched around trips to USC and Oklahoma.

Loftin’s summer slate begins with a visit to Missouri this weekend followed by stops at Florida State, Texas A&M and Nebraska. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound tight end recruit will visit the Huskers on June 21 during NU’s busiest recruiting weekend of the summer. Millard North athlete Pierce Mooberry and Platteview tight end Reiman Zebert will also visit that weekend.

All four players have already unofficially visited Nebraska several times alongside the Huskers’ other in-state targets.

Nebraska already has four in-state commits in the 2025 class: Omaha North defensive lineman Tyson Terry, Millard North athlete Caden VerMaas, Bishop Neumann running back Conor Booth and Lincoln Southwest wide receiver Jackson Carpenter.

The Huskers hope that number grows by the end of the month.

Other recruiting notes

* Lindenwood camp: Nebraska’s busy June begins with Lindenwood University’s mega camp in St Charles, Missouri. One of the largest annual satellite camps around the Midwest, the Lindenwood event generally draws 8-10 FBS programs per year.

Despite NU’s consistent presence at the event in years past, Husker coaches did not attend the camp in 2023, prioritizing efforts in Texas and the Northeast. Nebraska will still be active in Texas this summer — and the Huskers are keeping their eyes on Midwest talent as well.

Linebackers coach Rob Dvoracek, who leads NU’s recruiting efforts in the state of Missouri, will attend the camp alongside running backs coach EJ Barthel.

* 2026 QB efforts continue: Quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas had an active month of recruiting in May, extending several new scholarship offers to future quarterback targets. Nebraska has now offered 15 quarterbacks in the Class of 2026, having added Downey (California) three-star Oscar Rios to the list on Wednesday.

The 6-3, 175-pound Rios is a different type of quarterback prospect than what Nebraska has tended to target along the recruiting trail. Rios’ dual-threat ability is one of his best strengths, with his sophomore film showing several plays where he outruns defenders to the edge or dances around in the pocket to buy time.

Rios ran for 767 yards and seven touchdowns as a sophomore, while his skills as a passer also impressed coaches. Throwing on the run with accuracy and distance is another area where Rios excels as he threw for 2,633 yards and 23 touchdowns last fall.

Rios’ other offers include Arizona, California, Kansas, Michigan State, Utah and Washington.

2025 LB off the board: While Nebraska had once hoped to get Minneapolis Robbinsdale Cooper linebacker Emmanuel Karmo to Lincoln for an official visit, the three-star prospect will be staying home instead.

A powerful 6-3, 225-pound linebacker with excellent range, Karmo earned a Nebraska offer in January and included the Huskers on his top seven list of schools in early April. Less than a week later, Karmo made his decision and committed to home-state school Minnesota and became one of the Gophers’ highest-ranked 2025 pledges.

In May, though, Karmo announced he’d be taking a series of summer official visits anyway. Karmo planned to visit Wisconsin, Minnesota and Ohio State followed by a trip to Nebraska on June 21.

“Even though I’m proudly committed to the Gophers, I believe it’s important to explore all my options and ensure I’m making the best decision for my future,” Karmo wrote on social media.

It took less than a week for those plans to change again. After taking time to reflect, Karmo then clarified that he’d decided to cancel his upcoming visits and remain fully committed to Minnesota.

It’s a linebacker target off the board for Nebraska as a Big Ten rival’s class grows.

New 2025 offer: At this stage in the 2025 recruiting cycle, Nebraska coaches have already identified most of the players they hope to land by December’s early signing day. New offers and new targets can still emerge — and such players are often under-the-radar targets who NU discovers late in the process.

Nebraska may have found another late riser in 2025 Lakeland (Florida) Victory Christian cornerback JoJo Scott, whom defensive backs coach Evan Cooper offered on Wednesday.

A three-star prospect whose recruitment only took off this spring, Scott shortly went from having low-level FBS interest to receiving offers from Georgia Tech, Kansas, Louisville, NC State and Wisconsin. While the 6-1, 175-pound athlete already scheduled summer visits elsewhere, if he remains uncommitted into the fall, Nebraska could emerge as a late option for the secondary recruit.
