Nebraska football loses to Indiana: Fan Reaction

A look at some talking points after the Huskers’ game at Indiana on Saturday.

Behind enemy lines

From Indiana’s postgame news conference

IU coach Curt Cignetti: “I know there was a national perception Nebraska had a pretty legit defense on a national scale, so maybe this will open their eyes.”

Cignetti on what’s next: “Enjoy tonight, but we’re the same guys we were this morning when we woke up. Just overcame another challenge.”

Cignetti on preventing IU from complacency with big lead: “I was a maniac in the fourth quarter of this game, a maniac. We responded.”

Cignetti on NU quarterback Dylan Raiola: “He’s a very talented guy. He’s young, and we made some nice plays out there.”

Cignetti on Hoosiers potentially getting a target on their back: “You guys make that stuff up, right? Look, this is the here and now, this is where my feet are.”

What other media outlets are saying:

The Indiana football team obliterated Nebraska in a game that was billed as a measuring stick for both programs.

It more closely resembled IU’s win over Western Illinois.

The No. 18 Hoosiers (7-0; 4-0) gave a lively sold-out crowd at Memorial Stadium their money’s worth. They were superior in every phase in the 56-7 win — the biggest conference win since 1990 (42-0 against Northwestern) and had the game locked up midway through the third quarter to move one win away from tying the 1967 team for the best start in program history.

This year’s team remains one of only two FBS teams yet to trail this season.

The only problem? Indiana’s Heisman hopeful Kurtis Rourke suffered a hand injury that sidelined him in the second half. He exited the game after a near-perfect first half — he threw 189 yards on 17 of 21 passing. Rourke did throw an interception, but that came on a last-second Hail Mary as time expired in the first half.

After the game, Cignetti said Rourke hit his hand on a helmet and “the nail kinda came off.”

What the fans and others are saying on Twitter/X:

@jackbornhoftjr: We got it handed to us today by a better coached team that wanted it more and believed they would win.

@knebhusker: Disappointing. Not much else to say. Lots of folks will rant, and there’s plenty to complain about. But I am just disappointed. We really are a 5 and 7 team until we aren’t.

@ChrisBasnettLJS: False starting and calling a timeout before you run a play in the 4th quarter of a blowout. That should pretty well cover the bingo card.

@itsAntWright: Indiana shouldn’t be ranked they said. Just wait til they play Nebraska they said

@the_ryanwick: As someone who both loves and hates Nebraska football, it’s always a mesmerizing series of emotions

@RGIII: Indiana is on a HEATER. 7-0. Haven’t trailed all year. Curt Cignetti is the leader for Coach of the Year.

@BarstoolHusker: Don’t know how the fanbase is supposed to stay so patient when Cignetti just walks in and builds a top 15 team

@TriciaWhitaker: Multiple concession stands at IU concession stands have run out of beer. This is the best problem that I have never seen in my 30 years of being an IU football fan.

@Nebraska_born: That he (Matt Rhule) didn’t see this coming is very concerning.

@YahooSports: Nebraska moves to 0-26 against ranked teams since 2016
