Nebraska football lands commitment Sioux Falls speedster Dveyoun Bonwell-Witte

And, truth be told, 2026 athlete Dveyoun Bonwell-Witte wanted to tell NU coaches over the phone a few weeks ago that he wanted in the Husker boat.

His dad told him to wait and deliver the news in person. Saturday night, the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder out of Sioux Falls (South Dakota) Washington High School did just that, becoming the second commit in NU’s 2026 class.

“It was especially fun to do it after a big win,” Bonwell-Witte said. The three-star recruit, according to Rivals, had other scholarship offers, including Minnesota, Kansas State, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. But he loved NU each time he camped at the school. He liked the “energy” of Husker receivers coach Garret McGuire and the coaching style of Rhule.

“Seeing how coach Rhule has flipped the program around is great,” Bonwell-Witte said. “I would love to play for a team like that.”

He’s excited to catch passes from the future Raiola — that being Dayton, Nebraska’s 2026 commit at QB — and potentially the current Raiola, Dylan, who would be a junior in 2026. First on Bonwell-Witte’s priority list is recovering from a cracked kneecap that he said he suffered in Sioux Falls Washington’s first game of the season.

Since then, Bonwell-Witte said, he’s taken a few gameday visits and learned to watch the game as a coach might from the sidelines. He’s appreciated NU coaches’ support, too, as he comes back from the injury.

Prior to the injury, he caught 30 passes for 635 yards and six touchdowns at Brandon Valley High School, located in a suburb 13 miles east of Sioux Falls. Bonwell-Witte said he ran a 10.9-second 100-meter dash and has been timed at camps running the 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds. He plans to enroll early in January 2026.
