Nebraska football has open long snapper competition

Nebraska has an open long snapper competition, Matt Rhule said Thursday.

Within an uneven four quarters of special teams play against Colorado was a shaky performance from Camden Witucki. He and Aidan Flege will now battle for playing time against Northern Iowa.

The role of long snapper on field goals and punts will be two separate jobs, but the same player could win both.

Kicker Tristan Alvano missed a field goal against CU and had to contend with a bad snap on an extra point.

“It’s a big factor, honestly,” Rhule said. “You go out there and you’re trying to hit a golf ball and you have a bad lie, it’s a lot different than hitting it off the turf at Top Golf, right? And so then all of a sudden the anticipation of, ‘Is this gonna be a good lie or not?’ changes things, and I think that’s as much as anything. After Tristan missed his kick, I said, ‘You’re letting the snaps affect you too much.’”
