Nebraska Defensive Line Coach Hired by NFL’s New York Giants

According to an NU press release, Nebraska’s defensive line coach Mike Dawson has been hired by the New York Giant’s to join their coaching staff as their outside linebackers coach.

“Mike has been a key part of our staff the past three seasons at Nebraska and UCF. He is a man of great character, an outstanding teacher, relates well to players and is a tremendous asset for any coaching staff,” Nebraska head coach Scott Frost said in a press release.

Dawson followed Frost from UCF to Nebraska back in December of 2017. Under Dawson, Nebraska moved up 27 spots in national scoring defense. Also, the defensive line made 11 more tackles than they did the previous season.

“When you are fortunate to have outstanding coaches on your staff, they are going to have other opportunities in this profession. We will miss Coach Dawson, but wish him and his family the best as he takes the next step in his career with the Giants,” Frost said.

Before he joined Frost, Dawson had spent three seasons on Chip Kelly’s staff when he was head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. Prior to that, Dawson had assistant coaching stints with Boston College, Akron, Maine, and his alma mater, UMass-Amherst.
