Nebraska basketball’s Matar Diop enters the transfer portal

Nebraska men’s basketball’s Matar Diop has entered the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.

The forward from Senegal ends his time at NU after less than a year. He was a late addition to the roster, signing his letter of intent in July and joining the program after its summer trip to Spain. He appeared in 19 games, mostly at the end of blowouts, but got meaningful playing time in a win over Michigan State and against Illinois in the Big Ten tournament when Rienk Mast was in foul trouble.

Diop was always a project, a springy 6-foot-10 athlete with relatively little basketball experience or refinement. He scored 16 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in his limited playing time.

He’s the sixth Husker to enter the portal this offseason, joining. Ramel Lloyd Jr., Eli Rice, Blaise Keita, C.J. Wilcher and Jamarques Lawrence. Nebraska now has seven open scholarships heading into next year.
