Colton Roemmich spent the earliest years of his life watching his dad be a two-way baseball player for Creighton. Now the teenager is on track to do the same thing at Nebraska.
The Huskers on Tuesday landed a commitment in the 2026 prospect from West Des Moines Valley fresh off his official visit to campus last weekend. Roemmich projects as a right-handed pitcher who also plays corner infield and some corner outfield.
Roemmich (pronounced REM-ick) is considered the No. 10 recruit in his class in his home state according to Prep Baseball Iowa. His father, T.J., was an outfielder and left-handed pitcher for the Bluejays from 2007-10. The younger Roemmich still recalls occasional babysitting sessions from former CU stars like Pat Venditte and Darin Ruff and their now-wives.
“I grew up a Creighton fan,” Roemmich said. “Now I’m going to follow my heart and that is to be a Husker.”

Nebraska was the first team to reach out to him on Aug. 1, the first day 2026 players were allowed to be contacted — pitching coach Rob Childress had him on the phone around 6 a.m. Competing suitors included Creighton, Minnesota and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville while other Power Four programs had also expressed interest.
Roemmich toured the facilities in Lincoln for the first time last weekend, calling his commitment “just a no-brainer.”
The chance to pitch and hit was a top priority in his evaluation. The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder already touches 90 mph with his fastball, mixing in a breaking slider, 12-to-6 curveball and lively changeup. His bat has had gap-to-gap power with an exit velocity approaching 100 mph. Scouts and coaches generally envision his best long-term upside on the mound.
Roemmich becomes the sixth member of Nebraska’s 2026 class, the majority of which features two-way prospects. He is the first Husker commit in the cycle from outside the state.
