Nebraska and Florida State More of a History Question/Comment

Most of my Husker memories and probably college football memories start @ 1983 or so when I was 10. I have been watching older 70s and 80s games on youtube of all teams. I saw an old Orange Bowl game between Oklahoma and a 3rd ranked Florida State team.

Even though I feel I should have known better, I was really surprised by that ranking. I recall some Home games Nebraska hosted, especially in 1985 and 1986, and I believe there were four prior to our string of bowl losses to the Noles. That said, I always attributes those games as really putting Bowden and FSU on the map. This is how I recall Bowden explaining it (heavily paraphrased):
“Well, dadgum, if it wasnt for Osborne and Nebraska agreeing to host me and my lil Noles team, we maybe dont have the same sort of success. Sure we had some lucky bounces and snuck a couple wins out of Lincoln, but that spotlight really put us in the map,”

I looked back at Florida State and prior to our first meeting in 1980 and they really were not all that bad. They had just gone to the Orange Bowl and had some love in the polls.
