NCAA Announces Championship Brackets – University of Nebraska



Five Huskers are seeded 10th or better for the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships as the NCAA released the brackets Wednesday evening. This year’s tournament is set for March 17-19 at Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit, Mich. 

Eric Schultz leads the Huskers with a No. 3 seed at 197 pounds. The senior is coming off a second-place finish at the Big Ten Championships, his third consecutive runner-up finish at the conference tournament. Schultz, 16-2 on the season, is a five-time NCAA Championships qualifier and will face No. 30 Cole Urbasa of Penn first.

Mikey Labriola earned a nine-seed at 174 pounds after earning a fifth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships last weekend. The junior punches his fourth ticket to the NCAA Championships and enters the tournament 19-3 on the year. He will face No. 24 Joel Devine of Iowa State in his first match.

Ridge Lovett (149) earns a No. 10 seed in his second outing at the NCAA Championships. The Post Falls, Idaho native earned his third national championship qualification following a fourth-place finish in the 149-pound bracket at the Big Ten Championships last weekend. Lovett enters the tournament 20-3 this season and meets No. 23 seed Jaden Abas of Stanford in the first round.

Chad Red Jr. (141) and Taylor Venz (184) are seeded 19th and 10th in their respective weight classes and are set to make their fifth trip to the national tournament. Red Jr. earned an at-large bid and enters the championships 12-6 on the year. The four-time All-American will meet No. 14 seed Dresden Simon of Central Michigan first. Venz earned a fifth-place finish at the conference championship last weekend and is 16-7 overall this season. The Farmington, Minn., native enters the NCAA Championships as a two-time All-American and will face No. 23 Travis Stefanik (Princeton) in his first match.

Peyton Robb (157) and Christian Lance (285) will make their second-straight trip to the national championship tournament seeded 10th and 12th, respectively. Robb earned a fifth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships. He is 13-8 on the year and meets No. 23 Markus Hartman of Army in his first match. Lance enters the tournament following a seventh-place finish at Big Tens and holds a 16-8 overall record on the season. He will face NC State’s No. 21 seed Tyrie Houghton first.

Bubba Wilson (165) heads to the national tournament for the first time as the No. 27 seed. Wilson, who finished sixth at the conference tournament and is 13-13 overall this season, will face No. 6 seed Cameron Amine of Michigan first.
