My first away game was at OU, and top to bottom, they’re a better program.

I know this is an inflammatory title, and in some sense I want it to be.

I went to the game in Norman. I sat in section 107. I watched the entire game in both bliss and in agony. The sun beat down on my skin and I sweat out every beer I drank. And after some time for reflection, I can safely say that OU is a better *program*, not just a better team. This post is to highlight that it’s not just Frost or our play, but rather a game experience that could be contributing to our woes.

1) Their equivalent of “Husker Power” is “Boomer Sooner”. And it was *fucking loud*. Louder than I’ve ever heard a “Husker Power” at Memorial Stadium here in Lincoln. It wasn’t just one time that it was louder, it was every single time.

2) Their hype videos in-stadium and music choices were better. I could actually feel the energy build, and it sent chills down my spine in the 90 degree heat. Several times I almost forgot which side I was on and nearly clapped.

3) Their concessions were simply better. They had a broader selection of food, and sold beer (albeit at $8 a draw). Don’t get me wrong, there’s no better duo than Runza or Vals and a Husker game, but by god did they have choices, and good ones at that.

It seems to me that truly elite programs are better in every facet than Nebraska, from marketing to food to fan engagement. I don’t have a solution, and I wish I did, but changes apparently need to come wholly, not just at a coaching level.
