Monthly Consumer and Business Confidence Are Both Down In Nebraska

U.S. employers added 148,000 jobs in December, a modest gain but enough to suggest the economy entered the new year with solid momentum. While modest, the job gains underscore the economy’s continued health in its ninth year of recovery.

After reaching record levels the previous month…..monthly consumer and business confidence numbers are down in Nebraska.

UNL Bureau of Business Research Director Eric Thompson tells KLIN News that their latest survey shows consumer confidence with the biggest decline in December.

Thompson says half of respondents report a rising cost of living as the top financial issue they face, while another one quarter cite low wages or concerns about the job or business. Thompson says business confidence remained positive in December, although businesses expressed concerns about consumer demand, labor availability and increased competition.
