Miramontez Earns 2019-20 Barbara Hibner Scholarship

Sinclaire Miramontez has been honored with the 2019-20 Barbara Hibner Scholarship, which is given to a University of Nebraska varsity women’s student-athlete who has demonstrated a high level of athletic and academic achievement, community involvement, integrity and a passion for promoting women’s athletics at Nebraska.

On the field as a senior on the 2019 soccer team, Miramontez was a three-time All-Big Ten selection and was taken 27th overall in the NWSL College Draft by the North Carolina Courage. Prior to her senior season, Miramontez earned a spot on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, given annually to the top collegiate soccer player. She was also a two-time All-Region selection, receiving first-team status in 2018 after making the second team in 2017.

In 2019,  Miramontez started all 18 games, amassed 1,658 minutes and scored two goals. During her four-year career at Nebraska, she started 76 games and scored five goals while tallying one assist.

Off the field, Miramontez was a three-time academic All-Big Ten honoree and was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll five times. She was one of 27 Nebraska student-athletes to earn the Life Skills Sam Foltz 27 Hero Leadership Award in 2019 and was also one of five student-athletes honored with Nebraska’s Heart & Soul Award. Miramontez graduated in the winter of 2019 with a degree in accounting.

The scholarship was established July 18, 2007, with signatures from Barbara’s sister Lynda Racer and the University of Nebraska Foundation. Any parties wishing to donate to this fund may do so by contacting the University of Nebraska Foundation.

A true champion for women’s athletics, Hibner passed away in March of 2007 after fighting a valiant battle with cancer. Before her retirement, Hibner was a valuable member of the Husker Athletic Department for 28 years, leading the way for thousands of young women as they boldly and proudly succeeded as varsity student-athletes. Nebraska’s soccer facility was named after Hibner and open in the fall of 2015.
