Matt Rhule sees lots for Nebraska to clean up

The scoreboard said Nebraska had decisively beaten Colorado, but Matt Rhule was less than thrilled with the Huskers’ performance.

The film showed the second-year NU coach the missed blocks and undisciplined penalties on offense. Rhule saw missed blitz pickups from his running backs, poor blocking on the perimeter from his receivers. He saw “the worst special teams performance I’ve had in a long time.”

Tristan Alvano missed a field goal. Nebraska had a punt blocked. Colorado receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. returned a first-half kickoff deep into NU territory.

“It’s just not any one thing,” Rhule said. “It’s a lot of things. It’s yeah, we run down on the opening kickoff and yeah, we set the tone with some big hits, but we’re not leveraging the ball, so the next one comes out. Thank goodness John Hohl’s might be the fastest kicker I’ve ever seen because he runs Jimmy out of bounds.”
