Martinez Named to Maxwell Award Watch List

Nebraska football starting quarterback Adrian Martinez was placed on the Maxwell Award watch list, which was released Monday afternoon. The Maxwell Award recognizes the best all-around player in college football. Last season, Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa took home the Award.

In 2018, the 6-foot-2, 220 pound player threw for 2,617 yards and 17 touchdowns while rushing for 629 yards. He was the first true freshman to start at QB in program history. Martinez was named to the freshman All-America team for his efforts last year.

He led all freshmen in total offense in 2018 with 295.1 yards per game, placing him 12th nationally in that category.

Former NU running back Mike Rozier is the only Husker to have won the Award, back in 1983.

Martinez is one of 11 players in the Big 10 Conference that was named to the watch list. The winner will be announced during the College Football Awards Show, which will be held on December 12th, 2019.
