A former Husker quarterback has announced that he is retiring from football. Tommy Armstrong spent the last two seasons as the quarterback of the Omaha Beef of the National Arena League.

In his final game, the Beef defeated the Sioux City Bandits 47-46 in double overtime of the NAL Championship Game. Armstrong was the game’s MVP, going 12-of-15 passing for 166 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran 17 times for 95 yards and four touchdowns.

Armstrong played at Nebraska from 2013 to 2016. In 45 career games, he threw for 8,871 yards, 67 touchdowns, and 44 interceptions. He ran for 1,819 yards and 24 touchdowns.

The quarterback ended his career in Lincoln as the school’s all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns. He held the record for total offense (10,690 yards), but that was broken in 2021 by Adrian Martinez.
